Pricing My Photography

One of the questions I’ve been thinking about recently is a surprisingly difficult one:

How much should i charge for my wildlife photography?

It sounds simple enough, but putting a price on something you’ve spent years learning, practicing and enjoying isn’t always straightforward.

I’ve been photographing for around three years now. In that time, I’ve spent countless hours outdoors, learning about animals, watching their behaviour, waiting for the right moment and, of course, taking far more photographs than i could ever possibly keep!

Wildlife photography can be very unpredictable. You can spend hours waiting patiently for an animal to appear, only to come home with nothing you’re happy with. Other times, everything comes together in a split second - the right light, the right behaviour and the right moment. - and you capture an image you’re genuinely proud of.

Those moments are what make wildlife photography so rewarding.

So, what are you actually paying for?

When you buy one of my prints, you’re not just buying a photograph printed onto paper.

Behind that photograph is the time spent finding and photographing wildlife, learning about the species, waiting for opportunities and developing my photography. There’s also the editing a preparation that goes into turning a photograph from something captured in camera into a finished image that i’m happy to put my name to.

There are also the less obvious costs of photography - camera equipment, lenses, storage, editing software, printing, packaging and postage.

And then there’s the time.

Sometimes a photograph that looks like it took a few seconds to create might actually represent several hours spent outdoors.

My approach to pricing

I’m still relatively early in my journey as a wildlife photographer, so i want my prints to be accessible while also making sure i’m not undervaluing the work that goes into creating them.

For now, I’ve decided to keep things relatively simple with three print sizes.

Small Print: £25-£60 - A great size for a desk, shelf or smaller space.

Medium Print: £60-£100 - A little more impact and ideal for displaying on a wall.

Large Print: £100-£250+ - For those photographs that deserve to be given a bit more room to breathe.

All of my prints are produced to a high standard, carefully checked and packaged before being sent out.

Why buy a wildlife print?

For me, one of the best things about wildlife photography is being able to bring a little bit of the outdoors into someones home.

Maybe its an animal you’ve always loved. Maybe its a species you’ve seen yourself. Or perhaps its simply an image that caught your eye.

Whatever the reason, i want my photographs to be something you enjoy looking at for years to come.

I’m also hoping that, as my photography develop, I’ll be able to expand what i offer. In the future i may introduce digital images and potentially other ways for people to enjoy and support my work.

But for now, I’m concentrating on what i love most - photographing wildlife and creating prints that i’m proud to share.
